The second day of qualifying for the Nov. 6 open primary election continues today.

Candidates are lining up for council races in Patterson and Morgan City as well as the Morgan City mayoral election.

As of 10 a.m., candidates for Morgan City mayor are Larry P. Bergeron, Frank “Boo” Grizzaffi and Kevin Voisin.

Council candidates in the city include Tim T. Hymel and Drue C. Clement for District 1, Barry J. Dufrene for District 2, C.E. “Charlie” Pratt in District 3, Ronald Berry and James Fontenot in District 4, and Louis J. Tamporello Jr. in District 5.

There is also a seat available on the Patterson City Council after the death of member Claire Sawyer. Her husband, and current interim councilman, Charles Sawyer has qualified.

The Third Congressional District race now has four qualifiers, incumbents Charles W. Boustany Jr., currently representing Seventh Congressional District and Jeff Landry, incumbent in the Third Congressional District. Reapportionment placed Boustany and Landry into the same race. Also in the race are Jim Stark and Brian Barrilleaux, both of Lake Charles.

Candidate William C. Dupont of Plaquemine, J. Christopher Erny of Houma and Mitch Theriot of Raceland have qualified for the Louisiana State Court of Appeals, First Circuit, First District, Division B.

Erich Ponti of Baton Rouge, Scott A. Angelle of Breaux Bridge and “Ed” Roy of Lafayette have qualified for the Public Service Commission District 2 seat.

Vanessa Guidry-Whipple of Bourg qualified for First Circuit Court of Appeal, First District, Division D.

For Associate Justice, Sixth Supreme Court District, John L. Weimer of Thibodaux qualified.

James Harris of the Socialist Workers Party qualified for the ballot as a presidential elector. He lists a New Orleans address but is on the St. Mary Parish ballot.

Should a runoff be required after the general election in any race, it will be held Dec. 8.
