The Rev. Clarence Stewart Sr., former City Electrician and Pastor of Triumph Baptist Church succumbs after a courageous battle with cancer.

Rev. Clarence Stewart Sr. transitioned from earth to bright glory on Saturday, December 3, 2011 at 10:20 p.m., at his residence in Franklin.

Services will be held on Sunday, December 11, 2011, from 2 pm. until funeral service at 5 p.m., at Triumph Baptist Church, 1105 Iberia Street, Franklin. The dismissal service will be held on Monday, December 12, 2011, at 10 a.m., at the church. Interment will be at Perpetual Park Cemetery in Franklin.

Clarence was born on July 30, 1945 to the late Edward “Baby” Stewart and the late Elnora Pickett Stewart, the ninth of 11 children. He accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized by the late Rev. Octave Vincent at Triumph Baptist Church. He served there as a deacon under Rev. Vincent’s leadership and later as Senior Deacon under the leadership of the late Rev. Walter Moore. After many years of faithful service, he accepted his call into ministry to preach the word of God. He was ordained in 1984 and served as the pastor of Triumph Baptist Church for the past 18 years.

He retired as City Electrician from the City of Franklin on July 30, 2010 after over 30 years of service.

Pastor Clarence Stewart leaves to cherish his memories his loving and devoted wife of 45 years, Noel L. Henry Stewart; two sons, Clarence Stewart Jr. of LaPlace and Dwayne (Patricia) Stewart of Franklin; three daughters, Carla A. Davis (Barry) of Franklin, Jolanda M. (Christopher) Logan of Lawrenceville, Georgia, and Sherelle C. (Reginald) Martin of Lafayette; one brother, Claiborne (Evelyn) Stewart of Hampton Virginia; five sisters, Idella Lewis of Baldwin, Dorothy Widemon, Myrtle Perkins, Letha Wakefield and Maggie Cole of Dallas, Texas; three brothers-in-law, Wilfred (Elizabeth) Henry, Donald B. Henry and Willie Lewis of Baldwin; three sisters-in-law, Minnie E. Henry and Shirley R. Phillips, of Franklin and Emma Dell Stewart of Port Arthur, Texas; 11 grandchildren, Brittanee’, Barry Jr., Jordan, Joshua, Jacob, Titus, Ta’Nya, Tamia, Jovan, Corey and Christopher Clarence; two godchildren, Anthony Wilson and Loren Wells of Franklin; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends; and his beloved church congregation.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward “Baby” Stewart and Elnora Pickett Stewart; one son, William Arthur Stewart; one brother, Edward Stewart Jr.; and three sisters, Alma Green, Emma Colbert and Ora Mae Stewart.
