CROWLEY – A Rayne man has gotten a 40-year sentenced in the stabbing death of a woman.

Quinton Mouton, 38 at the time of his arrest, pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the multiple stabbing in August 2009 of Sharelle Charles.

No details have yet been provided as to the circumstances leading up to the woman’s death.

When arrested, Mouton was charged with second-degree murder. That charge was dismissed in October 2010 and the District Attorney’s Office refiled, charging Mouton instead with manslaughter.

On March 28, he pleaded guilty. After a pre-sentence investigation, Judge Kristian Earles sentenced Mouton, who has an 8th grade education according to court documents, to the 40 years.

In another homicide, the second-degree murder charged against Robert Thomas has been amended to manslaughter but no trial date is yet sent.
