St. Martinville (1-1) jumped outfront by a 7-0 lead in the first period on a 46-yard touchdown reception by Malik Anthony, who tallied four scores on the night. Anthony’s first score gave the Tigers a short-lived 7-0 lead at the 6:23 mark of the first quarter.
Franklin took a narrow 8-7 lead in the waning moments of the opening frame when Brian Robertson scored on a 6-yard TD before quarterback Jarion Brown fired a bullet to Brennan Robinson on the two-point conversion at the end of the initial period.
Jamiah Nelson and Anthony capped scoring drives resulting in the Tigers building a 27-8 halftime cushion. Nelson ignited the scoring spree with an eight-yard touchdown with 9:06 showing on the clock in the second quarter. Anthony raced 63 yards for a score before tacking on the two-point conversion, giving St. Martinville a 19-8 cushion. Nelson sprinted 42 yards for a score and added the two-point conversion, lifting the Tigers to a 27-8 advantage.
In the third quarter, Anthony scored on a three-yard touchdown, handing the Tigers a 33-8 lead with 7:19 flashing on the clock.
Franklin’s Brennan Robinson and Jarion Brown struck quickly for scores, enabling the Hornets to close the gap within 11 points of the Tigers at 33-22. Robinson hauled in a 19-yard scoring strike from Brown with 4:23 left in the third quarter. Early in the final period, Brown called his own number on a one-yard touchdown before tacking on the two-point conversion as Franklin sliced St. Martinville’s lead to 33-22 at the 12:39 mark of the final period.
Anthony again made his presence felt on a six-yard touchdown before Lorenzo Chaisson raced 18 yards for a touchdown, giving the St. Martinville Tigers the 46-22 victory over the FSHS Hornets.
Brown turned in a superb night of passing, going 21 of 27 for 250 yards with one touchdown and one interception.
Robertson led the Hornets in rushing with 15 carries for 42 yards and one touchdown. Trevions Rouchon had two touches for 14 yards while Brandon McFarlane ran for seven yards on two attempts.
Robinson grabbed eight passes for 89 yards and one touchdown while Derrick Kelly brought in six passes for 84 yards. Brandon McFarlane had three catches for 63 yards while Shon Johnson had two catches for 2 yards and Dave McClarity had one catch for six yards. Allen Randle also had one catch for six yards.
Franklin (1-1) will travel to face the Opelousas Tigers on Thursday at 7 p.m. at Donald Gardner Stadium.
