SWAMPLAND: Local teams miss out on summer league playoffs

The Swampland summer baseball league has come to a close and the teams from St. Mary Parish just missed the cut for the six-team playoffs that begin on Monday in Berwick.

Taco Bell, made up of Berwick players, lost its season finals to Vandebilt Catholic on Tuesday, 10-1.

Reed Leonard started on the mound and went 2/3 of an inning with Bobby Boudreaux coming on in relief for 31/3 innings and Drew Landry wrapped up the game over the last two innings on the mound.

Matt Skelton and Ian Bergeron led Taco Bell at the plate with each hitting doubles while Russo, Boudreaux, Leonard and Nick Osborn all had singles.

Taco Bell finished the season 3-7, Skipper’s from Morgan City finished 2-7, the Patterson Pride were 3-7, and the Cajuns from Central Catholic were 2-7.

E.D. White finished first with Thibodaux second with both having a bye in the first round of the playoffs.

South Terrebonne will face Terrebonne in the first playoff game at 5 p.m. Monday followed by South Lafourche taking on Central Lafourche at 7 p.m. in Berwick.

The winners will meet the two top seeds in the second round on Tuesday with the championship game set for 5 p.m. Wednesday.
