A boating accident took the life of Bayou L’Ourse resident Randy Vaughn, 36, around 11 p.m. Thursday.
Vaughn and two companions were frogging in a 15-foot aluminum skiff with a 40-horsepower outboard motor when their boat ran into the Cotten Road bridge near Patterson, state Wildlife and Fisheries Public Information Officer Adam Einck said.
All three were ejected from the boat, with Vaughn hitting the pier and sustaining head injuries. His two companions located him in approximately 5 feet of water and brought him to the shore where their vehicle was nearby. They attempted CPR but were unsuccessful, Einck said.
Vaughn was transported by their vehicle to Teche Regional Medical Center in Morgan City where he was pronounced dead.
The boat’s driver was kept in the hospital overnight for treatment of broken ribs, while the other passenger was treated and released.
Elsewhere, a motorcycle accident on U.S. 90 in Bayou Vista Sunday at 7:13 p.m. injured Teddy Ballard, 43, Patterson. Family members also reported on social media that Penny Daigle, 37, of Berwick, a passenger on the motorcycle, sustained injuries and was transported by AirMed to another hospital.
Ballard was driving a 2002 Honda motorcycle, which was struck by a 2003 Nissan Altima, driven by April Tabor, 28, of Gibson. Tabor received no injuries and was cited for failure to yield.
