The St. Mary Parish School Board meets Thursday with a light agenda ahead of an Oct. 22 property tax renewal election.

The 11.18 mill tax, on the books since 1988, generates $6.3 million annually for teacher pay and benefits. Failure to renew the tax for another 10 years would cause the loss of 127 teaching positions or an 11 percent pay cut across the board.

On the agenda for Thursday’s meeting is consideration of budgeting unspent money from the Franklin High School gym floor project to future flooring projects at the school as well as custodial appointments at three district schools.

The meeting is slated to begin at 5 p.m. in the Evans Medine Meeting Room of the Central Office Complex in Centerville and is open to the public.
