An hourlong executive session to discuss the professional competence of a person was held. Upon coming out of executive session, board President Roland Verret said “the person was present, the conference was conducted and the rest is confidential.”
A second disciplinary action, this one for “willful neglect of duty and insubordination” resulted in the board approving a three-day suspension without pay for the employee. There is no information as to who the employee is, where he or she works or in what capacity the person is employed. This information is protected in public meetings under state law.
In other personnel action, the board split on whether or not to table a revised superintendent evaluation document.
The new evaluation document more closely aligns with the leadership skill set required of instructional leaders as defined by Interstate School Leaders Licensure Consortium national standards.
However, board member Marilyn LaSalle pointed out it does not directly correspond with Superintendent Donald Aguillard’s job description as does the current evaluation document. An example, she pointed out, is the superintendent’s relationship with the board. In the new document, it is briefly mentioned in one item, while it makes up 13 points in the old document.
LaSalle moved to table the item until either it is time to renew Aguillard’s contract, his annual evaluation or he accepts the job in Lafayette Parish and a new superintendent must be found. The motion was seconded by Anthony Streva and passed 7-4 with Joe Foulcard, Mary Lockley, Wayne Deslatte and Bill McCarty voting against.
Among notable resignations accepted by the board were an art teacher at Berwick High School effective Oct. 28 and an English teacher at Berwick Junior High effective Dec. 21.
Meanwhile, two teachers will take professional leave sabbaticals for the spring semester — one each at Morgan City Junior and High schools.
