St. Mary Parish Chamber of Commerce Leadership St. Mary participants visited the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office in Franklin and the shooting range last week. The group began on the fourth floor of the parish courthouse for a presentation from several division members and leaders including patrol, narcotics, detectives and a Federal Bureau of Investigation liaison. Leadership St. Mary participants learned how the SMPSO conducts patrols across the parish, detectives’ tools of the trade and how the FBI assists in local investigations. The group then moved to the shooting range just outside of Franklin where, after a safety briefing, participants were invited to fire different types of weapons. At top, Captain Scott Anslum, left, explains to participants the different types of equipment used in law enforcement operations. Below, Lieutenant Sennet Wiggins, top, helps a participant sight a target with a sniper rifle. Leadership St. Mary was created to help recruit and develop leaders who will be active and involved in moving the parish forward. The future focus on these leaders will be improving the business, educational, governmental and community environments in St. Mary Parish.
