Scott acquired the firepower through the La. Federal Property Assistance Agency.
Louisiana law requires manufacturers or sellers of machine guns to have written permission from the sheriff of the involved parish before delivering such a weapon to an authorized person, Prator contends.
He said faulty in this case is with the property agency, not the DA.
As a law enforcement agency, the DA has the same authority as the sheriff to authorize its own acquisition of machine guns, Scott’s office contends.
Yet to be explained is why the DA’s office though it needed such armament.
