St. Mary Soil and Water Conservation District and volunteers conducted this year’s vegetative planting over two days for erosion control and shoreline protection. Some 2,000 bulrush plants were deposited along the mouth of Yellow Bayou to protect the shoreline, create wildlife habitat and reduce erosion. Volunteers included 4-H Junior Leaders and the Lafayette Canoe Club. This was the first “green” vegetative planting that the St. Mary Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) has sponsored. Only kayaks were used to haul the plants, no motors were allowed.
