The festival received a certificate from the society for being named one of the month’s top 20 events. The Southeast Tourism Society includes Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia and West Virginia.
The society’s top 20 publication is published in and broadcast over more than 1,600 media outlets, according to the Southeast Tourism Society’s letter to the Shrimp and Petroleum Festival.
The Shrimp and Petroleum Festival also received the top 20 distinction in 1991, 1992, 1995 and 1998, said festival director Lee Delaune.
“They’re going to promote our festival for people to come here,” Delaune said.
The Southeast Tourism society will list the Shrimp and Petroleum Festival on its website, www.southeasttourism.org/index.cfm, as one of its top 20 events.
Delaune said this distinction should help the festival attract more people this year.
“We’re going to have a different advertising campaign that I’m sure will bring extra people here also,” he said.
