OTTAWA, Ontario, Canada — A Nicholls State University sophomore javelin thrower will represent Team Canada at the 2011 Junior Pan American Games in Mirimar, Fla., July 22-24, after her appeal to use her 2011 season best mark to qualify for the Pan American Games was granted.

Jaimee Springer’s appeal to use her 2011 season best of 146 feet, 8 inches, which she set at the Cole Lancoln Twilight meet at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette in April, was approved by Athletics Canada, the national governing body for Canadian track and field, on Thursday morning.

The mark she reached in April ranks second among all Canadian juniors participating in the meet in the Pan American Games.

On Saturday, she finished fourth (138 feet, 6 inches) at the Canadian Junior National Track and Field Championships and two spots away from an automatic qualification to the Pan American Games.

Springer has continued to build on a successful freshman season in which she earned All-Southland Conference honors with a second place finish at the 2011 SLC Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

Thursday’s news is just the latest national honor for her. The Colonel competed in both the senior and junior national championship meets during the summer and won the Calgary Track and Field javelin championship to qualify to represent Team Alberta at the Western Canada Summer Games in August.
