The St. Martin Parish Council unanimously passed a resolution during its meeting last week asking the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development to initiate a traffic survey for the possibility of implementing a turning lane for motorists accessing Stephensville Elementary and St. Martin Parish Recreation District 1’s Park.

It’s a move St. Martin Parish officials said they think would reduce traffic volume in this area.

The request was made, citing the hazard of heavy traffic volume on La. 70 as a hazard to motorists accessing these two areas.

A motion to adopt the resolution was made by Carroll Delahoussaye, who represents Lower St. Martin Parish, and a second was offered by Jill Hebert. The resolution passed on a 7-0 vote. Councilmen Pat Cluse and James Hebert were absent.

During its Dec. 6 meeting, the council also unanimously selected Faith “Laura” Magann to a vacancy on the St. Martin Parish Recreation District 1 committee. She will fill the vacancy of John Desrosier, who resigned his post.

The appointment will expire July 6, 2012.

A motion to adopt the resolution was offered by Delahoussaye, while councilwoman Lisa Nelson offered a second.
