St. Mary Parish top students announced

Three St. Mary Parish students have been named parish Students of the Year and will move on to state competition in March.

They are fifth-grader Benjamin Lemoine of Bayou Vista Elementary; Breeze Simoneaux, eighth-grade, B.E. Boudreaux Middle School; and Kayla South, 12th-grade, Morgan City High.

St. Mary Superintendent Donald Aguillard said the Students of the Year Award Program is designed to recognize outstanding elementary, middle and high school students. The program is an opportunity to recognize students from each parish who have demonstrated excellent academic achievement, leadership ability and citizenship.

The program is sponsored by the Louisiana State superintendent through the state Department of Education and the State Board of Elementary and Secondary Education.

Parish winners will participate in the regional competition to be held March 6.

Other participants were:

—Fifth grade: Eulises Calderon, Aucoin Elementary; Ruston Scarbrough, Berwick Elementary; Brailey Fletcher, Centerville School; Nina Lofton, Foster Elementary; Kevin Linton, Hernandez Elementary; Sharaysha Boatman, LaGrange Elementary; Natalie Kinchen, Norman Elementary; Emma Grace Marin, Patterson Junior High; Zania Colar, Raintree Elementary; Madison Williams, Shannon Elementary; and Juliet Thibodeaux, Wyandotte Elementary.

—Eighth grade: Olivia Orlando, Berwick Junior High; Kennidy Adams, Centerville School; Lanie Daigle, Franklin Junior High; Caylee Deshotel, Morgan City Junior High; and Blair Brown, Patterson Junior High.

—Twelfth grade: Shereen Richard, Berwick High; Becca Verret, Centerville School; Rebecca Taylor, Patterson High; and Alexis Cross, West St. Mary High.
