Three court cases of note are scheduled for trial this summer.

Darby Mack Frickey is scheduled to go on trial Aug. 6 for the second degree murder of Mark Berthelot.

Berthelot, 38, had been missing since the beginning of October. His remains were found Nov. 18 in a sugarcane field off of La. 317 in Centerville with the body being positively identified as Berthelot Dec. 2.

Frickey, 38, of Bayou Vista was arrested Dec. 5, and he was indicted in January.

Discovery motions, primarily an exchange of documents between lawyers, are scheduled June 25, according to the Clerk of Court’s office.

Former St. Martin Parish sheriff’s deputy and Berwick fire chief Michael Touchet, 47, of Bayou Vista was arrested Feb. 28 for 10 counts of indecent behavior with a 13-year-old Berwick girl.

The warrant for his arrest stemmed from electronic conversations, over a period of approximately one month, with the juvenile, according to initial reports.

He was arraigned May 7 and is set for trial July 16.

Thomas Breaux, 17, of Morgan City was indicted for manufacture and possession of a bomb in October.

Originally arrested for sexual battery of a minor and possession of child pornography as well, the grand jury did not return a true bill on those charges, meaning they will not go to trial.

A search warrant had been issued in August for Breaux’s home after an allegation of molestation was made against Breaux. It was during that search that officers found three pipe bombs.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for June 27 with trial scheduled Aug. 27.
