State Police investigating shooting by deputy

BREAUX BRIDGE -- Louisiana State Police detectives were requested by the St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office to investigate a shooting involving one of their deputies, stated a release from Tfc. Stephen Hammons, Troop I public affairs officer.

At about 3:30 p.m. Wednesday deputies responded to a 911 call at 1129A Saltmine Road in Breaux Bridge. When the first deputy arrived on the scene, he encountered 32-year-old Laquan-tin Green of Opelousas, who was armed with a handgun, the news release stated.

The deputy fired his handgun, striking Green in the upper torso, Hammons stated.

Green was taken to a local hospital where he remains in stable condition, Hammons reported.

Detectives are continuing their investigation. Charges are pending the results of their investiga-tion.
