Two Morgan City soccer players received statewide honors recently.
Senior Austin Stroud was named to the Louisiana High School Soccer Coaches Association’s Division II second team All-State squad, while freshman Jose Zuniga was named to the LHSSCA All-Freshman team.
Stroud, a four-year member of the Morgan City soccer team, recently concluded his career as a member of the soccer team when Morgan City was eliminated from the second round of the Division II playoffs by Teurlings Catholic.
“Stroud was a tremendous defender,” Morgan City assistant coach Trevor Patterson said. “His work (ethic) on the field will be greatly missed.”
Stroud was among multiple District 8 members who made the All-State team.
Juniors Colby Masse and Derek Knight of E.D. White made the first team along with sophomore Seth Ledet. Vandebilt senior James Daigle also made the top squad.
As for Zuniga, as second-team selection to the All-Freshman squad, Patterson said the freshman is a very talented player who started most of Morgan City’s games.
“He will be a big asset in the next three years,” Patterson said.
Zuniga was one of five members of Morgan City’s district that were represented on the squad. Mason Arnette and Adam Farrar of Vandebilt made the first-team squad, while Zachary Breaux of Vandebilt made the second-team squad.
E.D. White’s Allen Frost and James Viguerie both made the second team.
