CENTERVILLE, La. — Students in St. Mary Parish will make up the time they missed this week due to heavy rains and flooding 15 minutes at a time.

Beginning Jan. 22 and running through April 5, school will dismiss 15 minutes later than the usual time — at 3:15 p.m. for elementary schools and at 2:45 p.m. for junior high and high schools.

The 735 minutes will be made up prior to phase two of accountability testing.

This allows all schools to make up the two days’ worth of instructional time missed without adding days to the end of the school calendar. It also leaves May 30 and 31 available should students have to miss more days in the event of another weather event.

Three days already were added to the calendar this year due to Hurricane Isaac. One of those has been made up. The remaining two will be March 22, originally scheduled as a professional development/teacher-parent conference day; and May 29 (report card day) which was not scheduled as a full day.
