MARKSVILLE – South Louisiana may have its “swamp people” but Avoyelles has its own “swamp weed eaters.”

A new aquatic harvesting machine may be the answer to the problem of hydrilla growth in Spring Bayou and other waterways.

The “Swampeater,” an aquatic mechanical harvester and the first of its kind in Avoyelles Parish, is now available to do the work of clearing swamps from unwanted acquatic weeds.

“These plants were picked up in Asia on boats, which brought them into ports up north in the U.S., and they worked their way into the waterways,” Danny Brouillette of Marksville explained.

Brouillette and Lyle Decuir, also of Marksville, are co-owners of the “Swampeater.”
