The annual Swampland League summer baseball season will kick off Thursday with all local teams in action except a team comprised of Morgan City High School players.
Teams from Berwick, Patterson and Central Catholic high schools, who play their summer seasons under sponsorship names, will begin play Thursday.
The Berwick and Patterson squads will host squads from Covenant Christian Academy and H.L. Bourgeois, respectively, at Panther and Lumberjack diamonds, while the Central Catholic group will travel to South Lafourche.
While the Morgan City squad was scheduled to start its season on the road Thursday against a group from E.D. White, that game has been postponed until June 15 because E.D. White is taking finals exams Friday.
League games will be played Monday, Tuesday and Thursday evenings for the next month. For local squads, whose facilities all have lights, junior varsity games will be held at 5 p.m. and varsity games will begin at 7 p.m. For those who don’t have lights at their fields, junior varsity games will begin at 3:30 p.m. and varsity will be held at 5:30 p.m.
The previously mentioned squads are joined in the league by teams from Thibodaux, Terrebonne, Vandebilt, Central Lafourche, South Terrebonne and Ellender.
At the conclusion of the season, the top six teams will play in a three-day tournament at Berwick High School, with the top six teams competing for the Swampland League champion-ship.
