According to Donate Life Louisiana it’s a time to honor the generosity of organ, eye and tissue donors and their families and commemorate all transplant recipients in the United States.

A special event recognizing Louisiana families impacted by donation and transplantation will take place Friday at Teche Regional Medical Center.

Teche Regional and the Louisiana Organ Procurement Agency will hold an awareness event at 10:30 a.m. outside in the hospital’s meditation garden.

The event is to honor those who have been affected by organ and tissue donation. Testimonies from a donor family as well as a recipient family member will take place.

Also, Teche Regional will show its support of donation by raising a “Donate Life” flag during the ceremony.

A short reception will follow. The public is invited to attend.

There are more than 114,000 people waiting for a life-saving organ across the country. Close to 1,700 of those are waiting in the Louisiana.
