The May meeting was dedicated to “Mother’s Day” in honor of all mothers. During the meeting Ann Taylor was crowned “Mother’s Day Queen” and presented with a gift from the chapter board of directors.
Members were treated to a meal of spaghetti and meat sauce, salad and bread furnished by Klutts Jewelers of Morgan City and prepared by Pat Fryer and friends.
Len Klutts of Klutts Jewelers spoke briefly and announced that his store is expecting to relocate in mid-June to the Guarisco/Evans Shopping Center in Morgan City.
Entertainment for the evening was by illusionist Glen Ghirardi who provided “How did he do that?” moments and singer/song writer Hubert Francis who treated everyone to some oldies.
St. Mary AARP expressed thanks and appreciation to its dedicated sponsors for their loyal support — M C Bank for continuing to supply a monthly anniversary/birthday cake and Mid South Bank for supplying coffee.
It was announced that AARP President Paul Vella is still recovering from knee surgery. His recovery has been slower than expected but Vella said, “I will be back and at 100 percent by the end of May.”

—There are limited openings left to attend the National AARP Convention in New Orleans in September. Call the office at 384-2277 for more details.
—Bingo is played every Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Senior Citizens Community Center at 4014 Chennault St. It is not necessary to be a member of AARP to play bingo but participants must be at least 21 years of age.
—The next St. Mary AARP Chapter meeting will be June 4 at 6 p.m. at the St. Mary Senior Citizens Center.
