Excerpts were performed from several of the show’s musical selections — “Broadway,” “If Momma Was Married” and “Small World.” The latter song was performed by the evening’s host, Dr. Rand Dooley, who portrays Herbie, and Diane Wiltz who portrays Momma Rose in the upcoming production.
Gypsy, based on the memoirs of legendary striptease performer Gypsy Rose Lee, will run for six nights at the Teche Theatre. Gypsy’s first weekend will combine dining and entertainment. Tickets for Friday’s opening performance are already sold out. Saturday will feature wine and hors d’oeuvres. Tickets are $25. Food service begins at 6; the show begins at 7:30. Gypsy’s final shows — Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, Aug., 3-5 — are general admission shows beginning at 7:30 p.m. Ticket prices for those performances are $18 in advance and $20 at the door. Tickets can be purchased at Fad News Stand in Franklin (613 Main St., 828-2486) and at the Teche Theatre Box Office one hour prior to the show. Tickets for the final three general admission shows will also be available at Dale’s Florist in Morgan City (715 Federal Ave., 384-5932).
