ALEXANDRIA – Residents donated more than 100 bicycles and $10,000 to the Salvation Army after thieves stole about 10 bikes of 30 and toys from a service center.

The bikes, toys and clothing were distributed Thursday after the community’s generosity provided replacement and additional gifts for needy children.

“We know it’s an incredible Christmas miracle,” Salvation Army Maj. LeeAnn Nelson told news media. “We would have given out those 30 bikes, but instead we gave out (about) 150.”

About 200 families received bikes and/or toys and clothes.
