VILLE PLATTE – Three officers were fired after placing a male suspects in the same holding cell as a female.

According to Chief Neal Lartique, the department had conducted a roundup when the males were put in the tank with the 56-year-old female.

After investigation, Lartigue dismissed two patrol officers and one jailer who were responsible for the inmates during the time of the round up.

“The officers and jailer made a decision that jeopardized the safety of an inmate by placing males in a holding cell with a female and therefore they were terminated once the investigation was complete,” Lartigue said. “They were all good officers. They just made a mistake that cost them their jobs.”

The Ville Platte Police Department has separate holding cells and jail cells for male and female offenders, which prevents this type of incident from occurring.
