Opelousas police received a call early Sunday afternoon from a woman advising that her vehicle was struck from behind by a red truck that fled the scene. The vehicle was a small red Nissan pickup truck, reported stolen earlier in the day.
Chief Perry Gallow saw the pickup traveling north on Tunica Drive towards Natchez after the hit and run. When Chief Gallow tried to stop the vehicle, the driver allegedly accelerated, disregarding a stop sign at the intersection of Natchez and Attakapa. Chief Gallow continued following the pickup until he forced the truck to stop on Magnolia Street.
At that time, the three people in the car ran away from the scene. Gallow captured one, Jaylon Fields Johnson, 18.
The other suspects were located shortly thereafter. They are the alleged driver of the truck, John Tyler, 17, and a 15-year-old juvenile.
All three suspects are Opelousas residents.
Their charges are:
Tyler: No drivers License, Hit and Run, Illegal Possession of a Stolen Vehicle, Aggravated Flight from an Officer, Resisting an Officer, and Contributing to the Delinquency of a juvenile.
Johnson: Illegal Possession of a stolen vehicle, Resisting an Officer, Contributing to the Delinquency of a Juvenile
Juvenile: illegal Possession of a Stolen Vehicle and Resisting an Officer
