A Centerville child was killed Friday near Thibodaux in a single-vehicle accident.

Reports from state police allege that Kevin Vicknair, of Thibodaux, was driving north on La. 308 about 9:30 p.m. and ran off the road and into a ditch. Authorities say the vehicle flipped at least once, and landed on the driver’s side in the southbound lane.

Passengers were his 3-year-old daughter, Natalie, who was ejected from the vehicle and died on the scene, and his son, Nathan, who was treated for minor injuries at Thibodaux Regional Medical Center. Natalie’s mother is Heather Charpentier of Centerville.

There were two child seats in the truck, reports indicate, but it does not appear either child was properly strapped in.

Alcohol test results are pending, but state police are reported to have said they believe it was a factor in the crash.

Vicknair was charged with vehicular homicide, vehicular negligent injury, two counts of child restraint violations and improper lane use.

He was held at the Lafourche Parish jail on $110,125 bond.
