KENTWOOD -- Severe weather, including suspected tornadoes, swept through parts of Louisiana and Mississippi early Wednesday, causing some structural damage, officials said.

Dawson Primes, the Emergency Director for Tangipahoa Parish reported a tornado around 3 a.m. that struck near Kentwood moving a two-story home owned by Charles and Jackie Tate off its foundation at 69325 Peckerwoods Road.

"It picked up the house, turned it and pushed it back about 15 to 20 feet," said Stephanie Blauvelt who lives in the home and was in the house when the storm lifted the structure.

None of the four people inside were hurt, but power lines and trees were also down in the area. "Thank God, we're alive," said Blauvelt.

A tractor trailer in front of the home was also moved about 30 to 40 feet.

Officials from the National Weather Service confirmed that a tornado hit the Tate's home, though they said it was a minor tornado that struck the house.
