During the Hanson Memorial High School Tigers’ game against the Gueydan Bears Friday, halftime was filled with a tribute to the late Coach Richard McCloskey who died 25 years ago. Alumni marched out on the field, many in their jerseys, while tributes to “Coach Mac” were read from the press box. McCloskey is the winningest high school football coach in Louisiana. During his 38-year career at Hanson his record was 286-141-6 and he coached 21 teams into the state playoffs. His 1976 team won the Class A state title with a 13-2 record. He was inducted into the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame in 2003. The Tigers beat the Bears Friday by a score of 48-14 in District 8-A Friday at McCloskey Field in the regular season finale.
