A US Recovery Systems truck, driven by Welton Guidry Jr., 44, of Chauvin, caused an accident on U.S. 90 around 6 p.m. Wednesday that tied up traffic for nearly three hours and sent a local man to the hospital. Guidry's truck pulled out from Hollywood Truck Plaza into the westbound lanes of the highway while attempting to gain access to the median, and drove into the path of a pickup truck driven by Tyler Richard, 19, of Morgan City. Richard's pickup truck was hauling a trailer with a tractor at the time of the accident. He was transported by Acadian Ambulance to Teche Regional Medical Center in Morgan City where he was treated for his injuries and later released. Guidry's truck spilled diesel across both eastbound lanes of the highway, causing a traffic diversion while the mess was cleaned. According to witnesses on the scene, the diesel was spilled when Guidry moved his truck after the accident. Guidry was cited with failure to yield with an accident and driving under suspension. US Recovery Systems Manager Ray Fournier said this morning that the truck was not hauling any material at the time of the accident and that Guidry's license was not suspended.
