This 2010 Chevrolet pickup truck hit the back end of an 18-wheel 1999 Freightliner around 3:45 p.m. Tuesday. The back axle of the 18-wheeler broke, causing the trailer to require offloading and leading to at least five hours of delays on U.S. 90 in Bayou Vista where the accident occurred. State Police Troop I Public Information Officer Stephen Hammons said pickup driver Jason Smith, 23, of Morgan City was cited for no seatbelt and following too close. He was taken to Teche Regional Medical Center in Morgan City with moderate injuries where he was treated and released. Truck driver Enrique Ulecia, 53, of Houston was not injured.
