“His seatbelt saved him,” said one Kentwood Volunteer Fireman at the scene of an overturned 18-wheeler

A Magnolia, Miss. man escaped serious injury when the log truck he was driving left the highway and rolled onto its side, sending at least one log into the cab.

Emergency responders arrived on the scene at approximately 3:30 p.m. to discover Eric Johnson, 40, still in the driver’s seat, in the cab that was lying on its passenger side.

Volunteer firemen were able to open the door on the driver’s side, and with some effort, moved the steering wheel and assisted Johnson in getting out of the truck.

Looking into the cab through the windshield, a log could be seen just below the driver’s seat.

One responder on the scene said that Johnson stated that he had watched the log come into the cab beside him.

The 1999 Mack truck belonged to J & K Logging of Bogalusa.

Johnson was transported by Acadian Ambulance to SouthWest Hospital in McComb with minor injuries.

The accident occurred on Hwy 1054 just east of Hwy 51 in the Greenlaw community on Wednesday, January 9. State Police issued Johnson a citation for careless operation.
