State Police said Mitchell Fontenot, 43, of Ville Platte was driving a Chevy pickup which failed to make a curve about 9:30 p.m.
He died at the scene. A passenger, Mary Vizena, 48, of Mamou was also killed.
The driver was using a seat belt, the passenger was not, troopers said.
Investigation continues.
