Since the last public meeting on the subject of city council redistricting in Morgan City on May 8, two new proposals have been put forth, though Mayor Tim Matte said that if the issue is not decided by Tuesday night’s city council meeting, the possibility of having the November elections delayed becomes real.
Plan 1 Revision E was produced on the 11th, and Plan 1 Revision F was produced the next day.
The area between Spruce and Pine streets and between Elm and Sixth streets is in District 3 in Revision E and in District 4 in Revision F.
The area between Federal Avenue and Second Street and between Egle and Bowman streets is in District 2 in Revision E and in District 3 in Revision F.
The area bound by Federal Avenue, Charlie Lane, Onstead Street, and North Third Street is in District 1 in Revision E and in District 2 in Revision F.
The plan that emerged from the May 8 public meeting at Walmsley Baptist Church had the area bound by Franklin, Front and Belanger streets and Federal Avenue in District 1. However, some property between Onstead and Belanger streets was in District 1 in the plan that emerged from the May 8 meeting. Revisions E and F have been made since that meeting.
