The University of Louisiana at Monroe inducted its 1987 1AA national championship
football team into the school’s Hall of Fame in mid-October during a luncheon in
Monroe. The team also was honored at halftime of ULM’s game against Florida Atlantic. Paul Gilder, left, who prepped at Berwick High and Karl Aloisio, who graduated from Morgan City High, were members of the team. Another member of the team from the Tri-City area, Kenneth Johnson, could not attend because he lives in Germany, Aloisio said. Johnson attended Morgan City High School, according to Aloisio. The team finished the 1987 season with a 13-2 mark and defeated Marshall, 43-42, in the title game.
