Police said Ashley Bethley, 24, of Baker was killed when the 2007 Saturn Ion vehicle she was driving crashed near Blount Road.
Bethley and her passenger, Christopher Bob, 23, of Baker were headed south on La. 19 when they came upon a slower moving vehicle in the right-hand lane.
Bethley swerved left to pass the car but overcorrected and lost control.
The vehicle left the roadway to the right and hit a utility pole.
Bob was also unrestrained.
