Unbelted passenger dies in Henderson crash

HENDERSON – An unbelted woman riding in the backseat was killed Monday when an SUV left the roadway and struck a tree.

State Police said Elizabeth Howe, 55, of St. Martinville was killed in the 5 a.m. accident.

They said Bryan Howe, 34, also of St. Martinville lost control of the vehilce on La. 352. Belted, he suffered minor injuries as did Sally Thibodeaux, 22, the front-seat passenger who also was restrained.

The Howes’ relationship, if any, was not disclosed.

The driver is charged with careless operation, no driver’s license, and operating a vehicle without required safety equipment.
