St. Mary Parish Chief Deputy Lonnie LaBouve and Maj. Gary Driskell recently visited Hanson Memorial High School to teach female students self-defense techniques. The “stun and run” tactics taught focus on maneuvers that allow females to quickly and efficiently escape an attacker. Instructors explained to students the realistic danger an attacker poses. The benefits of the course are not just the self-defense techniques, but confidence, a skill that may prove invaluable when fighting for one’s life. The training course is provided free of charge as a public safety service by the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office. It is offered to women only in groups of 10 or more. For more information contact Driskell at (985) 384-1622.
