Unrestrained driver ejected, killed after pickup hits tree

OPELOUSAS – Investigation continues into a single-vehicle accident that killed an unrestrained elderly man Saturday afternoon.

State Police said Paul Johnson, 74, of Opelousas was driving a pickup on La. 104 east of La. 29 when it left the road in a curve and hit a tree.

Johnson, not wearing a seat belt, was ejected after the truck struck the tree, troopers said.
