A Eunice man was arrested Wednesday after allegedly attempting to conceal marijuana beneath a juvenile’s football helmet.

Eunice Police Chief Ronald Dies stated that narcotics detectives assisted with a traffic stop, during which Alvin Poullard, 41, of 241 E. Oak Ave., was allegedly observed failing to signal a turn.

When stopped, police detected the scent of marijuana coming from the vehicle and obtained consent to search, Dies said.

During the search, detectives allegedly located marijuana and $224 cash beneath the helmet of Poullard’s juvenile passenger.

During the subsequent investigation, detectives learned Poullard had just picked the juvenile up from football practice at Eunice Junior High School when he saw officers attempting to pull him over.

According to police, Poullard grabbed the juvenile’s football helmet and shoved the marijuana and cash under the pads of the helmet, and told the juvenile to put the helmet on.

Police say the juvenile also stated Poullard tried to blame him for officers finding the drugs.

Dies stated the juvenile was released to the custody of his mother following the investigation, and both the juvenile and his mother are cooperating fully with detectives.

Dies stated the street value of the marijuana sezed was approximately $125.

Poullard was charged with distribution of a Schedule I Controlled Dangerous Substance (marijuana), distribution to persons under 18, violation of Uniform CDS law (drug free zone) and transactions involving proceeds from drug offenses.
