ABBEVILLE — The Hanson Memorial Lady Tigers came up on the short end of a 63-43 District 7-A opening loss to the #3 ranked Vermilion Catholic Lady Eagles here Friday at the VCHS Gym.

Hanson (15-5, 0-1) opened the contest with a 16-13 lead in the initial period before the game was knotted at 29-all at intermission.

Vermilion Catholic’s Lady Eagles gained a 48-32 lead after going on a 19-4 run in the third quarter after the HMS Lady had trouble finding their shot.

The Lady Eagles collected the 63-43 league win over the Hanson Lady Tigers.

Leading scorers for the Hanson Lady Tigers were: Macie Guillotte, 11; Emily Sonnier, 11; Brittney Broussard, 9; Kimberly Sonnier, 5; Katie Sonnier, 3; Mallory Chiasson, 3 and Destiny Landry, 1.

HMS (15-5, 0-1) will face Jeanerette Tuesday night at Hanson Memorial in a non district contest.
