VILLE PLATTE – The City Council voted Tuesday night to lift the walking curfew in October.

The vote was over objections of Mayor Jennifer Vidrine who wanted it renewed for 120 days.

The ordinance requires residents to wear reflective vests or bracelets when walking the streets after 10 p.m.

The curfew was imposed after an outbreak of late-night violence.

Its opponents say it amounts to racial profiling and restriction on personal freedom rights.
