Vernon man allegedly left cell phone video recorder on, filmed women in bathroom

LEESVILLE – An Anacoco man is charged with leaving a cell phone video recorder on in a bathroom used by women visiting his house.

Sheriff Sam Craft said Steven Boyd Smith, 40, was jailed after an investigation.

The Vernon Parish Sheriff's Office received a report on Nov. 5 from two women who alleged that they were at the Smith residence on Nov. 4 and discovered a cellular telephone hidden in the restroom.

Both females advised that they examined the cellular phone and found that the video recorder was operating while they were in the restroom.

Additionally one advised that on a prior occasion approximately one week earlier she observed the cellular telephone in the bathroom but thought it may have been left in the room accidentally.

The complainant stated that on this occasion she examined the cell phone and found the video recorder was operational and recording.

Both women stated that the cellular phone was placed behind a bottle on the side of the tub with a washcloth covering everything but the camera lenses.

Through further investigation it was learned that numerous persons under the age of 21 were at the residence at the time and were provided with alcoholic beverages by Smith.

Further investigation into the allegations did lead to the arrest of Smith on three counts of video voyeurism, three counts of contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile, three counts of unlawful purchase of alcoholic beverages on behalf of persons under the age of 21.

Total bond was set on the charges in the amount of $84,000.
