Video voyeur gets 10 years for his restaurant toilet recordings

METAIRIE – An employee who placed video cameras in a restaurant’s women’s toilet will spend 10 years in prison - without his films.

Able Saravia was sentenced Thursday after pleading guilty to one count of video voyeurism in addition to 53 counts of possession of pornography involving juveniles, material he downloaded from the worldwide web.

Almost forty of the juvenile images involved children under 13 involved in sexual activity, prosecutors said.

The Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Department became involved in the case when restaurant employees discovered a miniature camera taped below the vanity counter in the toilet.

It was removed by officials and a second one appeared days later. Not long thereafter, Saravia was arrested when he reported for work.

Investigators said Saravia confessed he placed cameras in the restroom at various times in April and May, recording below the waise women ranging from the elderly to age 13, and then transferred the images to his laptop computer.

The child porn was discovered when detectives searched Saravia’s apartment.

Five years is the maximum for video voyeurism. Judge June Darensburg sentenced Saravia to 10 years for each pornography count,. Additionally, she gave him five years for hydrocodone possession, and six months each for the marijuana possession and drug paraphernalia charges, all concurrent.V
