MORGAN CITY — In a battle of the Atchafalaya Football League’s co-champs, a late stand by the Vikings’ defense helped them edge the Colts, 6-0, Saturday at the annual Turkey Bowl at Tiger Stadium.
The Vikings stopped the Colts on fourth down in Vikings’ territory in the fourth quarter before the Vikings ran out the clock for the victory.
Mitch Fredrick scored the game’s lone touchdown on a 1-yard run. He finished the contest with 79 yards of total offense (55 passing and 24 rushing).
He completed a 16-yard pass to Reid Wiley and a 39-yard pass to Devin LeBlanc.
Other Vikings’ contributors included Barrett Hover, 43 yards rushing; Reid Wiley, 36 yards rushing; and Cade Thibodeaux, 35 yards rushing.
On defense, solid performances were turned in by Jake Srigley; Lucas Hatch, who had a fumble recovery; Fredrick; Blake Pennison; Grayson Wells; Adam Askew; Seth Giroir and Cruiz Crawford.
Reginald Talver led the Colts with 47 yards rushing, while Drexel Boutte added 21 yards on the ground.
On defense, solid performances were turned in by Jamioun Butler, Darrius Lucas, Ja’quandre Williams, Tabari Declouette, Keylon Williams, Robert Schexnayder and Don Quan Tillman.
In earlier action, the Saints defeated the Chiefs, 18-14.
Logan Tingle was the top offensive contributor for the Saints with 46 yards rushing, and touchdowns from 6 and 18 yards. He also caught a 15-yard pass from Brooks Thomas.
Morriquise Charles also ran for 43 yards, including a 25-yard touchdown.
In addition to his pass to Tingle, Thomas also completed an 11-yard pass to Dede Gant and a 25-yard pass to Drake Angeron.
On defense, Charles and Jarayle Thomas were top performers, with Charles recording an interception.
For the Chiefs, Colin Louviere rushed for 72 yards, including a 2-yard touchdown. He also completed passes of 31 and 42 yards, both to Javion Jones.
Top performers for the Chiefs included Marquil Singleton, who had a fumble recovery; Ronnie Hatcher; Ethan Boagni; Trey Derouen; and Tyler Nugier.
