Virgil E. Kreider, 90, a resident of the Elant at Fishkill in Beacon, N.Y., formerly of Colorado and originally from Louisiana, died Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2012, at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie, N.Y.

Born Oct. 6, 1921, in New Orleans, he was the son of the late John and Vida Kinsey Kreider. During World War II, he was inducted into the U.S. Army and served as infantry unit commander throughout several campaigns in Europe, including northern France. He achieved the rank of second lieutenant and was honorably discharged in 1945.

After his service, he married Jule E. Mire in Patterson on Feb. 17, 1946. They were married 63 years when Mrs. Kreider predeceased her husband Nov. 20, 2009. Virgil worked for Southern Pacific Railroad for 34 years.

He is survived by his daughter, Jayme Kreider Petrucelli; his granddaughter, Laura Rose Petrucelli; and his sister, Catherine Guillory.

In addition to his wife, Virgil was also predeceased by two brothers, Donald and John.
