WSM meets FSHS in “Fire on the Bayou;” Hanson hosts ACHS

“Fire on the Bayou” came early while the Hanson Tigers await a strong-arm quarterback from Donaldsonville in the regular season openers in high school football Friday.

The annual “Fire on the Bayou” contest which pits the West St. Mary Wolfpack hosting the Franklin Senior High School Hornets will get the 2011 season off with a bang on Friday at Wolfpack Stadium.

The herald “Fire on the Bayou” clash was played towards the end of the season when both FSHS and West St. Mary were in District 6-3A. However, this season, the Wolfpack have moved to 2-A and the annual friendly rivalry will have the two clubs meeting in the opening game of the season.

The Hanson Memorial High School Tigers await a visit from the Ascension Catholic Bulldogs of Donaldsonville in Friday’s opener at McCloskey Field.

West St. Mary and Franklin will renew their civil rivalry on Friday with in what has been fondly billed as “Fire on the Bayou.”

FSHS AT WSM

West St. Mary will host the Franklin Hornets in the annual “Fire on the Bayou” battle on Friday at 7 p.m. at Wolfpack Stadium.

WSM Coach Ryan Antoine said both teams are looking forward to the game.

“This is a big game as both sides are pumped up and ready for the start of the regular season. I’m reminding my team that we must stay focused and not get caught up with the hype of the game.”

Franklin Coach J Ina feels his team is also looking forward to playing the season opener.

“We are looking forward to playing in the regular season game and to have that game as “Fire on the Bayou” is that much better,” he said. “We’ve been practicing and playing preseason games, but now we are just excited about playing in the regular season.”

West St. Mary heads into Friday’s contest without the services of standout Jontrey Tillman who is nursing nagging injuries.

The annual Fire on the Bayou contest between the Franklin Hornets and the West St. Mary Wolfpack is slated for 7 p.m. Friday at the West St. Mary Stadium.

ACHS at HMS

The Ascension Catholic Bulldogs will invade McCloskey Field on Friday to kickoff the 2011 season versus the Hanson Memorial High School Tigers at 7 p.m.

Hanson Coach Richard Sandusky said the Bulldogs will be lead by a strong-armed quarterback who likes to spread the ball around.

“We will have to defend the pass and buckle down on defense,” Sandusky stated. “Although they are not that big on defense, they are real aggressive and pursue the ball carrier. We’ve got a big challenge on Friday.”

The Hanson Tigers stand ready to take on the challenge of the Ascension Catholic Bulldogs on Friday at McCloskey Field. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
