Gulf Coast Wrestling hosts “Super Saturday” on Jan. 26, headlined by WWE Hall of Famer Hacksaw Jim Duggan.
Duggan, the U.S. champion, World Championship Wrestling Television champion; and winner of the first-ever Royal Rumble match, will be in action at the event at Morgan City Junior High for the second consecutive year.
The event’s concession proceeds will benefit Morgan City Junior High. The school also will receive a portion of the ticket proceeds.
Duggan, who is nearly 59 years old, will be wrestling at the event, too, not just signing autographs and two-by-fours, said “Mustang” Mike Beadle, Gulf Coast Wrestling co-owner.
Beadle said Duggan enjoys the people of south Louisiana.
“Every time he gets back down here, he loves being here,” Beadle said.
Duggan actually lived in Louisiana when he competed as part of Mid South Wrestling.
Morgan City’s show is one of multiple Gulf Coast Wrestling shows that Hacksaw will be competing in as part of the “Super Slam Weekend.”
He and the other wrestlers will be competing in New Iberia Friday and Abbeville Saturday morning.
On Sunday afternoon, GCW also will hold a show at the Addis Community Center.
The weekend’s festivities are meant to be held the same weekend as WWE’s Royal Rumble.
Duggan still is under contract with WWE, and in fact, last year, he was called away and couldn’t participate in the final show at Addis because he was needed to participate in the Royal Rumble festivities because it was the 25th anniversary of the event.
At 2 p.m. on Jan. 26, Duggan will sign autographs at Courtesy Toyota in Morgan City.
Other participants in the four weekend shows include Mustang Mike, Psycho Mike, Stoneman, David Silver, Rocket, Wildthing, Minotaur, Big Jon Steel, The Wolfman, Grizz, Kid Krash and Haniel T.
Tickets, which range from $16 on the front row to $10 for general admission, can be purchased by calling 985-518-0433 or 397-1765.
