At this time, flooding can be expected a half-mile mile on each side of the Tangipahoa River (east and west).
Troopers will be assigned to each highway that crossed the Tangipahoa River. "They will remain there until we have more information. It is reported that the dam has been damaged, however has not failed at this time," said Dawn Panepinto.
A plan is being developed around the statistical data of the past floods of 1983 and 1990.
Sheriff Edwards has called for additional resources to support Tangipahoa Parish. About 40 buses and 14 ambulances are deployed to the Florida Parishes Arena to assist in the evacuation from Hurricane Isaac-caused flooding.
"Evacuees will be transported to our local shelters. It is asked that if you have family or friends in the area needing a place to stay, please open your home to them," she said.
Sheriff Edwards encourages anyone needing assistance to please contact the office at 985-355-6150.
Additional updates will be announced as soon as they are available.
Sheriff Edwards would like to thank Col. Edmondson and the Troop for their assistance and acknowledges his team for their relentless efforts in keeping parish residents safe.
